STORYLINE – ROGUE

This issue details Rogue’s origin story and how her journey leads her to meet Wolverine and ultimately join the X-Men.

Powers Manifestation – The comic begins in Meridian, Mississippi, where the teenage girl Anna Marie (who later takes the name Rogue) is living a normal life, unaware she is a mutant. Her powers of absorption and life-force draining manifest after she shares her first kiss with her boyfriend, which leaves him in a coma for nearly a month.

On the Run – Fearing for the safety of her friends and family, a frightened and traumatized Anna Marie runs away from home. She hitches a ride on a truck heading towards Alberta, Canada.

Capture and Experimentation – During her time on the road, Rogue encounters trouble and is captured by a mysterious squad of government agents. She is taken to a secret facility, the Sherman Chemical Plant, where testing is being done on mutants in an attempt to learn how to reverse their genetic mutations.

Escape and Meeting Wolverine – Rogue orchestrates an escape with other captured mutants. Now on the run again, she eventually meets another mutant known as Wolverine in a bar in Canada, where she asks him for help after being harassed by truckers (which differs from the film’s depiction).

Joining the X-Men – Sabretooth, a member of Magneto’s Brotherhood, later attacks Rogue and Wolverine. They are rescued by X-Men members Cyclops and Storm, who bring them to Professor Charles Xavier’s school in Westchester County, New York, setting the stage for the events of the first X-Men movie.
