STORYLINE – Six hundred thousand meta-cycles previously, Shockwave concludes that the Great War will drain Cybertron of its resources. He enacts a program, Regenesis, to seed other planets with raw energon. Biding his time as the energon bears fruit, he visits each planet to regulate the reaction with the intention of controlling the resources and the balance of power in the war. One of the planets that Shockwave seeds is prehistoric Earth.

As Shockwave visits Earth and places global dampers around the planet, the Dynobots arrive in orbit. Tracking Shockwave after he disrupted their mission to secure an energon cache in Sub-Sector-Nine, Grimlock intends to lead his troops in a mission of revenge. However, the energy on on the planet is off the scale, meaning they would endure Stasis Lock if they set foot on the surface. Slag proposes a solution: using the Cryogenic Regeneration Chambers on board to grow a synthetic form of mammalian flesh, as well as adapting their alt-modes to local forms. Grimlock begrudgingly agrees but refuses to take on the form of local mammals. Instead, Slag finds giant extinct lizards for them to use instead.
