STORYLINE – Published in 2002 as a Wizard magazine exclusive, Ultimate Spider-Man #1/2 follows a street-level misunderstanding that J. Jonah Jameson tries to spin into a smear campaign against Spider-Man.
The Conflict – The story centers on a scuffle involving a woman stealing children’s sneakers. A bystander intervenes, followed by Danny Rand (Ultimate Iron Fist in his first appearance), who also tries to help.
Spider-Man’s Role – Spider-Man arrives and diffuses the situation, though Karen (an intern) photographs the chaos.
The Daily Bugle – J. Jonah Jameson reviews the event and immediately attempts to frame Spider-Man as the instigator.
Ben Urich’s Defense – Reporter Ben Urich refutes Jonah’s claims with a direct statement from Spider-Man, who explains his mission and the responsibility he feels.
The Smear – Despite Spider-Man’s heartfelt explanation, Jonah waits for everyone to leave the room before ordering the story to be published exactly as his biased version originally intended.
