Powerline: A Shadowline Saga #2 (July 1988, Epic Comics) continues the story of Shadow Dwellers Victor, Lenore, and Ripper as they flee to New York, confronting their heritage and escalating tensions with the Ravenscore family.
This issue, titled “Across This Great Nation,” deepens the narrative of the Shadowline Saga, a mature-themed superhero universe created by Archie Goodwin under Marvel’s Epic Comics imprint.
Victor, a Shadow Dweller whose family was massacred during a peace attempt with the rival Ravenscores, is on the run. Lenore, betrothed to a Ravenscore, escapes her arranged marriage using her powers. Ripper, a former wrestler who lost a hand helping Lenore escape, joins them. The trio flees to New York City, seeking refuge but finding themselves entangled in the deeper conflicts of their race.
The Shadow Dwellers are a secret race with enhanced abilities and near-immortality, living hidden among humans. Their powers are typically weak unless activated by intense emotional or physical connection—such as Victor and Lenore’s bond. The Shadowline Saga explores themes of identity, secrecy, and intergenerational conflict, with Powerline being one of three interconnected series (alongside Doctor Zero and St. George).
